There are two major themes in my artwork.

In my Social series, I draw from Americana, fairy tales, nursery rhymes and the “news” to

create work akin to political cartoons.  This work is inspired by a strong personal response

to the post 9-11 neo-conservative movement.

In my Nature series I create stylized personal expressions which pay tribute to my lifelong

love and appreciation for the natural world.

The techniques I use in my most recent work include wax resist, painting with dye,

immersion dyeing, appliqué, embroidery, quilting, drawing and other techniques that may

be needed for a specific project.  Each of my quilts begins with a white fabric “canvas”.  I

paint on my canvas with dye, or I immerse the entire piece in dye.  I then apply wax to

particular areas.  After several repetitions of waxing and dyeing, the wax is removed and

the dye is set.  Shapes, textures and more colors are added using appliqué and

embroidery.  As a final step, I quilt the piece to give it a three dimensional quality.
